Where we are;

Cascina San Rocco is in Piemonte in Northern Italy between the Langhe and Monferrato areas. The village of Castagnole Lanze is in the heart of this region which is now well known for excellent wines, wonderful food and magnificent scenery with breathtaking views. Access is easy from the A21 (autostrada from Torino – Piacenza). The nearest airports are Torino, Genova and Milan.

Accommodation Cascina San Rocco is a typical Piemontese farmhouse built in the middle of the l9th Century. It has recently been restored retaining its original character and features and has a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. There are three comfortable double bedrooms all having en-suite bathrooms. There is ample parking in the enclosed courtyard.
		Rooms are available with two single or one double bed.
	The Cascina (meaning old farmstead) is situated in the old Borough of San Rocco on the outskirts of the village. From the bedroom windows there is a panoramic view of the old part of the village and beyond the village the rich green hills are covered in vineyards which produce excellent quality wines.

Wine tastings

There are many well-stocked and attractive local cellars.

The proprietor Ezio Rocca, was born in the house, spent many years in the U.K. where he met Judith, and returned to Castagnole six years ago. Naturally he knows the region extremely well. He arranges visits to vineyards and wine cellars (large and small, well-known and those so far unknown) in nearby villages including those producing the famous Moscato, Barbaresco and Barolo. Other wines produced in the area include Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Grignolino and Arneis. There are dozens of Wineries who welcome visitors for very pleasurable wine tastings in their Cellars. Ezio is very happy to accompany the guests on these visits. Most of the local producers only speak Italian and as he speaks English, French and German as well as his native Italian he can be of great assistance!

Food, Leisure and Events

The area is also noted for its fine cuisine. There is a wonderful variety of eating places ranging from the excellent typical Piemontese Trattorie to the luxurious, but comfortable Restaurants (within a 10 mile radius there are a number with a Michelin*). Ezio will be happy to make reservations for you at any local restaurant for lunch or dinner.

The village of Castagnole Lanze is almost equidistant from the historical towns of Alba, Asti and Canelli. During the course of the year all of these towns have interesting festivals and events, one of the best known being the Festival of the White Truffle (Tartufo Bianco) in Alba in October. Most of the nearby villages have their own wine festivals either in the spring or autumn. Castagnole Lanze has a Barbera Wine Festival in May.

For anyone not interested in food or wine there are plenty of things to do. There are many interesting castles to visit and with the surrounding hills covered in vineyards you can appreciate the wonderful scenery either walking or cycling. There are normally no additional charges for other services mentioned above. In exceptional circumstances, such as extended accompanied visits to local vineyards and wine cellars, a small charge may be made and shouldbe agreed in advance.
